COVID-19 Pneumonia

Bilateral interstitial pneumonia with posterior consolidation due to COVID-19 infection.

Clinical information

The patient presented to the our Emergency Department with a chief complaint of fever, cough and dyspnea. Tested positive for COVID-19 on day 3 from admission due to lack of swabs.

Brief description

Analyzing the images we can see all the main features of interstitial pneumonia:

1. B lines: the B lines are well represented but are not confluent in a “white lung” appearance but rather clustered with some spared areas. B lines are distributed randomly.
2. Pleural line: the pleural line is thickened and shredded.
3. Posterior consolidations: some patients present with significant posterior consolidation, usually if late presentation to the ED as seen on clip 1.

Ultrasound Images & Clips

B-lines in waterfall fashion with evident spared area. As easily identified, there is a segment of normal pleural line with no artifact arising from it.
An enlarged view showing a minor subpleural consolidation. Note the interruption of the pleural line.
Large consolidation. this scan was taken in basal posterior area, where such consolidations are more frequent.
