Clinical information

This female patient discovered a small bulge in her left inguinal region.

Brief description

Ultrasound showed a hypoechoic cystic mass.
No recognizable peristalsis or vascular flow.
With Valsalva maneuver no changes in shape or size.
There is no visible communication to the peritoneal cavity.

Conclusion

The portion of processus vaginalis within the inguinal canal in women is called the Canal of Nuck. It usually gets obliterated.
If completely patent it is a potential pathway for an indirect hernia or hydrocele.
In this case the cystic formation can be explained as fluid trapped in between both ends of the inguinal canal creating a Canal of Nuck cyst.
