Child with an abnormal parotid gland

Clinical information

Two children examined for SONOZORG a primary care ultrasound facility. The children have a swollen mass in the parotid region and some smaller palpable masses in the neck.

This is one of the smaller palpable masses

This is an enlarged reactive lymph node. The parotid gland is swollen and inhomogeneous because of a parotitis

This child also has enlarged lymph nodes. This child also has a parotitis

There is some increased flow

Transverse image of the left thyroid lobe. There is a small round structure in the parathyroid region

This mass is vascularized. This is not an enlarged parathyroid gland, but also an enlarged paresopgageal lymph node, which has increased in size because of the thyroiditis

Conclusion

The two children have a parotitis and reactive lymph nodes. The patient with the abnormal thyroid gland also was a thyroiditis. There is a round enlarged reactive paresophageal lymph node, that should not be confused with an enlarged parathyroid gland.
